We are not married to any one manufacturer, so we are able to recommend to you whatever best fits the application, your needs and your requirements.
The most popular size truck scale is 70' long and 10' wide. It represents about 90% of all truck scale sales.
There are two major types of truck scale, the first is mechanical, and the second is electronic.
MECHANICAL TRUCK SCALES
A mechanical truck scale costs less initially, but costs more to service. For example, a mechanical truck scale needs to be serviced 4 times a year instead of once or twice a year like the electronic. Every three to four years the mechanical scale needs a grease job at a cost of about S 1,000.00, and every ten to twelve years they need an overhaul which includes new pivots and bearings at a cost of $ 5,000.00. Cardinal makes an excellent mechanical truck scale. They also have the advantage of being both here on the west coast and the east coast which means savings in freight costs:
ELECTRONIC TRUCK SCALES
Under the classification of electronic there are two types of truck scales: "Regular Electronic" and "Hytronic Electronic".
REGULAR ELECTRONIC
Regular Electronic and Hytronic cost almost the same. Regular Electronic use electronic loadcells which are very accurate and sensitive. They are also vulnerable to lightning strikes, stray voltage spikes, RFI, and water, ESPECIALLY WATER (rain, ground seepage, condensation and high humidity). Electronic loadcells are very expensive to replace.
HYTRONIC ELECTRONIC
Hytronic is a combination of the best of hydraulics and electronics. Hytronic is sensitive and very accurate like electronics without the vulnerability to water, humidity, rain, flooding, RFI, lightning, and stray electric spikes. The heart of the Hytronic system is the hydraulic load cell, with a proven record in handling severe applications that would destroy electronic load cells. The hydraulic load cell makes it possible to keep the electronics out from under the scale platform - the area of greatest abuse. The Hytronic system also allows the electronic instrumentation to be located away from the scale platform in a controlled environment, weather proofed, properly heated, and electrically isolated from the platform. In this way, Hytronic technology assures all system components operate under optimum conditions - for unprecedented levels of truck scale performance.
